The exact training that I use will vary depending on what the dog I am working with responds to most. The methods I use run along the lines of the Least Invasive Minimally Aversive (LIMA) training guidelines. My belief is that training must be built on a strong foundation of positive reinforcement and relationship building, and that boundaries must then be set in whatever way the dog responds to most. Training should always be a fun experience, and we play a lot of games to help guide our dogs to do the behaviors we are looking for.

While I occasionally use prong collars and electronic collars, I only recommend them after a strong foundation has been built, and only if other methods have been exhausted. I do not use these tools on dogs under the age of 6 months old.

I started training animals while I was in college. My first training job was teaching puppy group classes. After I graduated with my Bachelors Degree in Animal Behavior, I got a job at a boarding and training facility, where I trained countless pet dogs, and worked with multiple different types of working dogs. While there I gained many hours of continuing education. Since starting Bear Necessities, I have attended multiple conferences and seminars, as I strive to stay on top of the most recent developments in dog training. I come to you! Dogs learn best in a space that has as few distractions as possible. I recommend picking up all toys and treats before a training session so that we can set your dog up for success ahead of time. I am also able to meet clients in local pet friendly locations if that is preferred or recommended for the behaviors we are working on.

Yes! The whole family is welcome, and even encouraged to attend! I have experience working with kids, and would be very happy to tailor your training experience to include them. My one request is that kids are respectful during training and listen or, even better, participate!

No, I do not offer a guarantee. Dogs are individuals, and training will differ for every dog. Your dog should do well if you stay consistent with training, but I cannot make any promises.
